The Sebastopol Village Building Convergence is a 10-day event to build resilient communities within the town of Sebastopol through placemaking proejcts, networking and celebrations.
Sebastopol's first annual placemaking festival, the Sebastopol Village Building Convergence (VBC) will be September 12-21, 2014.
The Village Building Convergence is an annual collaboration and cross pollination of neighbors, groups and civic partnerships to transform our town through village life patterns and educational placemaking projects. This culminates in a 10-day fall celebration.
During the day, you will have the opportunity to get involved with creative community designed placemaking projects that will be happening all over the town. There will be building, gardening, art, and many other fun things to do and great people doing them with you!
During the night, there will be educational and inspirational presentations, food, music, and a whole lot of celebration.
Many of you may have heard of VBC from our northern allies in Portland who have been doing this quite successfully for 14 years. And now it is our turn to bring this awesome event to our town.
Why a Placemaking Festival? Placemaking is the act of locals coming together to shape their common spaces in a way that promotes beauty and community. Projects may take the shape of benches on corners, street painting projects, sharing kiosks, natural building projects and a multitude of other ways to inspire neighbors to gather in public spaces.
Here is a video to give you an idea of what the VBC could look like. This is a 3 1/2 minute video put together in 2011 as an invitation to the VBC in Portland.
